Grass tracking is about fast, light cars racing on muddy fields!
Our driver has honed his skills over many years following a strict balanced diet to keep him in shape. His balanced diet means a pie in each hand (, but this had helped him on his way to winning the North Wales Autograss Club Championship in his home build class 5 mini!
Where is all began
Class 1 grass track cars are standard engine cars under 1000cc. Typically these cars are either Minis, Micras or Yaris'.
Starting out in a standard Micra with the three little ducks number, Ross has spent may a day playing in the mud.
The cars have always been maintained and built by the brains of the Lastminutemotorsport outfit, his dad, Peter.

Why build your own chassis?
Because we can!
The whole chassis as seen here was built in this draughty damp garage with a home welder, and small hand pumped tube bender.
I always remember being told that a measure of skill is, "Not what you can do with all the tools, but what you can do when you don't have all the tools".
It has seen its changes in its time, most notably the rear suspension has been changed around a few times, but it's out there competing with cars built with a lot more money put into them.
The future is bright, the future is orange!
Week after week, this car was out in the fields testing, racing and generally being fettled to make it go faster and eventually into a winner.
Many people offered advice along the way, some of it actually made sense too, but some of it was taken and quickly ignored. You will never get to the top by doing exactly the same as everyone else.
Why was it painted bright orange, because we could.
Going from a 1000cc FWD to a 1.4 RWD is a challenge, it requires a completely different driving style and set-up.

I don't know why it's green.
If you keep plugging away, one day you will get there! So now it looks the part, and boy can it fly! There's still more to come from this car.

Currently running on twin 40 DCOE carbs, the next step is to build a higher compression motor and get the throttle bodies on it so we can run injection.

Ready to go again this season.
Not a chance!
She may be looking pretty, but it needs a re-wire. Currently I have some other wiring jobs on the go, and she's not racing in the next 24 hrs, so there's still time.
At present the engine is run by a DTA T2 ECU and a handful of switches and relays. I think this year we will go for a fully sealed loom with a Cartek isolator and 5 channel PDU.
