Information

I have always loved cars, and have been surrounded by some amazing motors from an early age. My first three cars were Minis, and they ranged from a bog standard Mini 1000 up to a fully restored 1989 Mini with pearl paint and 1275 turbo motor.

As my driving career progressed, I moved to bigger cars and other projects, but always wanted to go back to building a Mini.

This Mini van was a project that had been knocking around for some time at home and needed finishing. With my current career, I had the opportunity to put this back together. It is not concours, but as original as we can make it look without being silly. Still has the original engine and we sourced correct period seats for it. This was then used as a daily driver for a while.

But still I longed to build something a little special.

A local project came available for a bargain price.

This car was within a mile of where I work. The guy who owned it had bought it to restore and found that his welding skills were not up to spec. I have to agree with that, but all he wanted was £100, and that was for the whole car. including log book etc.

As with any classic Mini, it was going to need work. But I knew what I wanted to do to it, so a plan started to form.

I always wanted to de-seam my Mini. I wanted a Zeemax kit with big wheels. I remember seeing a yellow mini with 14" wheels on it, so that was something to aim for. I want to do something different with the lights, front and rear. The engine I knew had to be a derivative of the A-series. But I knew I wanted a 16v head. I wanted to upgrade the brakes, and fit discs to the rear somehow. The engine bay needs to be completely clean, nothing other than the engine in there.
